If you’ve just learned you’re pregnant for the first time, you may be experiencing a wide range of emotions. You may be excited, nervous, terrified, happy, or sad all at once. This is likely to be the biggest change you have ever experienced in your life. You may even feel a bit underwhelmed. Sure, the test has a plus sign on it, but nothing feels different yet. Your life is changing in a dramatic way, and yet that change is really months away.

One way to feel more in control of your situation is to educate yourself about it. Read about pregnancy stages, labor, and caring for an infant so that you feel prepared for any situation that may arise. Knowing about the changes your body will be going through will make the whole process seem less mysterious and terrifying. Likewise, knowing what to expect during labor and delivery makes the event less nerve-wracking, and you will be able to feel more calm and in control throughout the event. Learning about caring for an infant is also important, because the hospital really will just send you home under the assumption that you actually know what you’re doing! This is especially important for those who have never cared for a newborn.

Aside from learning about pregnancy and childbirth, the main thing you need to do now is schedule that first prenatal appointment with your doctor. If you don’t have health insurance, call your local health department for advice on prenatal screenings. You may qualify for state health insurance which will pay for everything you and your baby need. Then it is extremely important to go to all of your doctor appointments so that you can be monitored for any complications. Most pregnancy complications can be avoided with good healthcare, and those that do arise can be treated promptly before you or your baby suffer any ill effects.

Last, but not least, try to relax and not worry too much about the future. Stress during pregnancy is not good for you or the baby. Nature provided humans with nine month gestation period for a reason. This type of change requires months of preparation, both emotional and practical. There is no need to feel rushed; by the time your baby arrives you will be ready for the next stage in your life.

When a man starts to feel a burning itch or pain down below, he may wonder if he has contracted a sexually transmitted disease or even had an unfortunate run-in with a bed of ants. Possibly the last thing on his mind is a yeast infection, yet that is sometimes the culprit in these situations. Most people assume yeast infections are an exclusively female problem, but as many men have been dismayed to learn, a yeast infection in men is very common.

No matter how healthy you are, yeast and various types of bacteria do live in the body. This is normal, and just a fact of biology. However, for various reasons these organisms do multiply too rapidly from time to time, and the immune system can’t keep them in check. When yeast gets out of control, it can cause a painful or itchy infection in areas of the body that are warm and moist, such as the groin. While this is more common in women, yeast infections do also occur in men.

Can a yeast infection be sexually acquired? Certainly, if you have recently slept with a woman who was currently suffering or recovering from a yeast infection. Sometimes couples even pass these infections back and forth for quite a while. Other times, however, it has nothing to do with your sexual history and activities. Just as a woman can spontaneously develop a yeast infection, men can suffer the same fate through no fault of their own (or anyone else, for that matter).

If you think you have a yeast infection, get to the doctor for a correct diagnosis. You will want to be sure that it is indeed a yeast infection, and not a sexually transmitted disease. Don’t sleep with anyone in the meantime, until you know for sure what you have and it has been treated (not that you would feel like doing that anyway). If it is a yeast infection, you will be given a prescription for anti-fungal medication that should take care of the problem and bring you relief, usually within a few days.

When people talk about a pain in their neck, sometimes they are just referring to an overbearing boss or a pushy mother-in-law. Other times, however, a pain in your neck might be a very literal problem. If you suffer from neck or shoulder pain, it can become difficult to perform even the simplest of tasks. No matter how you sit or lie down, you’re in pain. Your work might suffer, and you can’t even get comfortable and relax for an evening watching TV or reading. It’s no wonder the term “pain in the neck” was coined to refer to annoying relatives or frustrating situations.

Usually, neck and shoulder pain is due to problems in the upper back which radiate outward. An old injury is sometimes the culprit, such as one sustained playing sports or in a car accident. Another common cause is poor posture. If you begin to pay attention to the way you sit and stand, you may see a pattern of poor posture contributing to your pain. Those who work very physical jobs with a lot of lifting are commonly afflicted with this type of pain, but it can also be caused by sitting at a computer for hours every day. When we sit in front of a computer, we become locked into a certain posture with our hands out in front of us, typing. This leads to stiffness in the muscles and they will often contract, refusing to relax and causing pain.

Obviously, what you can do about upper back pain will depend upon the cause. If your job requires a lot of heavy lifting or repetitive movement, you may need to adjust your posture and lift objects correctly to avoid straining your back. Remember to keep your back straight, bend at the waist, and use your legs to lift. Wearing a back brace may remind you to maintain good posture. If you sit in front of a computer all day, taking frequent breaks can help keep your muscles from locking up. These breaks don’t have to be long, but they do need to be frequent. Get up and walk around, or even just do some stretches at your desk. The main thing to remember is to change your position frequently. If pain is due to an old injury, seeing a doctor for help is probably the best course of action.

In fact, many people suffer from at least a mild vitamin deficiency, due to our modern diets. Our dependence on processed junk food, fast food, and meals in a box is preventing many of us from enjoying good health. By depriving our bodies of healthy, well-balanced meals we are causing a deficiency in necessary nutrients, so if you’ve been feeling fatigued or have other symptoms of poor health, you may want to examine your diet.

Vitamin B 12 is one of those necessary nutrients. Those who suffer a B12 deficiency can experience a wide range of symptoms such as fatigue, depression, memory loss, shortness of breath, or a pale appearance of the skin. You might also notice white spots on your skin. Symptoms similar to a stomach bug may appear, such as nausea and vomiting, or diarrhea. A loss of appetite and weight loss may occur. Bloating and constipation, as well as heartburn, can be symptoms. One of the telltale signs of a B 12 deficiency is a pins and needles feeling in your extremities. Most of these symptoms are caused by having insufficiency red blood cells, which carry oxygen through the body. Vitamin B 12 is used to make these red blood cells, so a lack of B 12 in the diet will slow your body’s production of this crucial element in your blood.

A deficiency of this important nutrient can have long-term effects on your health as well. Heart disease, cancer, strokes, and Alzheimer’s have all been linked to problems stemming from a B 12 deficiency. To start feeling better soon and ward off these disastrous consequences, make sure you are getting enough vitamin B 12 in your diet, or take a supplement containing the recommended daily allowance of this important nutrient.

While there is little you can do about the common cold once you’ve contracted it, you may want to watch for signs of a more serious illness. Sometimes other diseases can initially appear to be a cold.

For example, mono symptoms can fool you into thinking you just have a cold at first. The difference will soon become noticeable, however, when your symptoms persist for much longer than the usual run-of-the-mill cold bug. Rather than slacking off after a few days, mono symptoms may persist for weeks. One of the telltale signs is a sore throat that does not go away after a few days. With a cold, a sore throat is usually a side effect of your sinuses draining and becoming irritated, and it goes away after a few days. With mono, the sore throat will be more severe and will persist for a far longer period of time. If you have mono, you will need to have this verified by a doctor, and try to stay home and away from the general public until you are feeling better. Otherwise you will continue to spread the disease to others.

Another thing to watch for is strep throat. This is another illness in which your sore throat will be more severe and persist past the usual expected period for a simple cold. If you do have strep throat, antibiotics will have you feeling better in a few days. Do not let strep throat go untreated, as the infection can spread to the rest of your body and actually become quite serious.

The flu is often suspected when your cold symptoms are very severe, and especially if stomach troubles accompany them. Go to the doctor, and you can be tested for the flu and diagnosed properly. While there is no cure, a steroid shot can often help you start to feel better more quickly.

There are quite a few prescription medications available to treat anxiety disorders. Unfortunately, many of those drugs also come with a number of harmful side affects, ranging from fatigue and disorientation to dangerous addiction. Most of the time, it is best to take drugs like Xanax only for short periods of time or on occasion for very stressful circumstances, because over time these medications can become habit forming, and even lose their potency so that you need a higher dosage over time. If you have anxiety on a daily basis over a long period of time, it may be safer and healthier to research natural remedies for anxiety and try to find an alternative to pharmaceutical drugs.

First, consulting with a psychologist can help you obtain counseling for your anxiety. Uncovering the cause of your feelings may be helpful in helping you deal with them, and talking with a therapist may help you learn strategies to cope when you begin to feel anxious. There are various strategies you can try, such as focused deep breathing and relaxation exercises, or counting backwards when you feel yourself beginning to panic. A therapist can help you discover which methods work best for you.

There are also more physiological ways to deal with the stress and depression that can lead to anxiety. Certain vitamin supplements may be helpful, as well as making sure you get sunlight exposure every day. A regular exercise routine can make a huge difference, especially if you do some serious cardiovascular exercise to work through the adrenaline surges that often accompany panic attacks. Lowering the amount of caffeine you consume, or abstaining completely, is likely to make a huge difference in how you feel. There are ways to help your body learn to relax as well, such as meditation or massage therapy. Changes to your daily routine may prove helpful in lowering your stress level, which often leads to anxiety.

The main thing to remember is that what works for one person won’t necessarily work for someone else. It may take time and patience to find the strategies that work for your anxiety, but luckily there are a lot of different options that you can try in the meantime. Just be sure to give each method a chance to work, as it often takes the body a few weeks to adjust to changes in lifestyle.

It has been an unfortunate disaster for many people; however, it can also benefit you. There are several reasons why buying a home right now could be a smart move. For those who are unfamiliar with the real estate market and don’t know much about how to buy a house, the current situation in the real estate market really boils down to three factors.

First of all, the prices of homes have dropped dramatically. This means you can get a great deal on property right now, at far below its original value. For those who previously could not afford to purchase a home at all, this slump in the market may open up the door to home ownership. For others, it may mean being able to upgrade to a larger home or moving to a more desirable neighborhood.

Another reason to consider purchasing real estate right now is the prediction that home values will eventually rebound. This means you can buy real estate at a low price now, and in a few years its value will increase. If you hope to sell the property again at some point in the future, you could stand to pocket a nice profit.

Finally, interest rates on mortgages are at all-time lows. Since your interest rate both dramatically affects your payment amount, as well as the amount you can borrow, it is a good idea to buy when rates are low. This means you will get more for your money in the long run, because you can afford the house of your dreams while paying less for it over time. No point in throwing away money on interest by waiting until rates increase before making your move!

If you want to take advantage of low real estate prices as well as rock-bottom interest rates, all you really need to do is see a mortgage professional about a loan so that you can be pre-approved. Once you know how much you will be able to afford, find a good real estate agent and you can begin your search for your new home.

There are a lot of reasons people are sometimes afflicted with depression. Financial problems, job woes, relationship difficulties, and other types of stress can wear down your enthusiasm for life and leave you feeling hopeless. Much of the time depression can be alleviated by making sure you get plenty of sunlight, fresh air, exercise, and a healthy diet. Any exercise aimed at reducing stress and anxiety can also be helpful. When depression is really serious, talk therapy, group therapy, or even anti-depressant medications may be needed. Usually some combination of the above methods will help you begin to feel better.

Sometimes, unfortunately, it seems as if depression is determined to stick around no matter what you try. In this situation it may be helpful to receive a complete physical work-up by your physician to rule out any physical or hormonal causes such as a thyroid disorder. Sometimes depression is actually a symptom of a medical problem, and that underlying issue needs to be resolved not only to cure your depression but also for the sake of your long-term overall health.

Another reason your depression may be lingering is a situation psychologists call learned helplessness. This phenomena was first observed in a study done on canine behavior, but it often applies to humans as well. Basically, learned helplessness means that a person has become accustomed to the idea that there is nothing they can do to alleviate their problems, and so they just accept whatever bad situation they are in while abandoning efforts to solve their problems. This applies to depression in particular, since some people who suffer from depression have already tried several methods of alleviating their symptoms with no results. Rather than continuing to fight what seems to be a futile battle, they give up and just accept that they will always feel this way. When learned helplessness affects someone suffering from depression, it can make recovery much more difficult because that person no longer feels confident that anything they try will work. When the treatment for a disorder is largely changes in thinking through therapeutic counseling, learned helplessness can present a significant barrier to recovery.

Unfortunately, many sleeping pills can be dangerous or have bothersome side effects, so they are best used as a last resort.

One of the most common side effects of sleeping pills is that they work too well, meaning they last far longer than you actually need to sleep. This can lead to daytime drowsiness, which can be dangerous if you need to drive or operate heavy machinery for work.Other common symptoms are dry mouth and forgetfulness, which can cause anything from minor annoyance to serious disruption of your daily functioning. Any time you take prescription medications, you risk side effects and then subsequent treatment of side effects which may require even more drugs. You also risk the drug interacting with other medications you may be taking, which can cause serious problems.

You may also build up a tolerance for the drug, which means you need a higher and higher dosage over time in order for the same medication to be effective. This can lead to a dependency, in which it is impossible for you to sleep without the medication. If you need to stop taking it, or if you are ever in a situation where the medication is not readily available, you could experience withdrawal symptoms. When your body is accustomed to a substance being present at all times, the sudden removal of that substance can trigger problems such as severe insomnia and even hallucinations.

Remember that any time you take a medication, you risk long term effects on your health. Sometimes these adverse effects are not discovered until a drug has been on the market for many years, at which point you become one of a number of people damaged by the medication. It is better to use natural sleep aids first, and see if those can help your insomnia before resorting to serious pharmaceuticals. Usually, unless your problem is severe, natural sleep aids can help you get the sleep you need without having to resort to medications that can be dangerous and addictive.

Sometimes work just seems to drag on and on, with no indication of ever becoming interesting or challenging. On days like that, it may be tempting to nap at your desk, play a game on Facebook, or sneak out for an early lunch. However, all that is going to accomplish is getting you behind on work, and you know it. Instead of goofing off or trying to get out of work, find something that motivates you, buckle down, and get it done.

Reading some hard work quotes may be just what you need. Reading these quotes may help you to feel inspired, or at the very least you won’t mind work as much after reading them. Choose a new quote each morning before you begin work, or write your favorites on post-it notes and stick them up around your office to keep yourself feeling inspired.

Another motivator might be pictures of something you’re saving money to purchase, whether it’s a great pair of designer boots or a beach vacation. Just don’t become so distracted fantasizing about your vacation that you forget to keep working!

Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery. Get up for a few minutes and go for a short walk, if you can. If you aren’t allowed to leave your office, do some stretches or even jumping jacks. A quick burst of energy may perk up your mood and help you feel focused for the rest of the day – or at least until your next short exercise break.

If you’re allowed to listen to music, bring your Ipod to work, or plug some ear buds into your computer. Music is a great mood booster, and if you listen to fast, thumping music it may help you feel energized as well.

If all else fails, and you still feel miserable and bored at work every day, it may be time to think about switching jobs or going back to school to pursue a career that is more interesting to you.
