A Different Career Option

offshore rigAre you looking for a job with much better pay than what you are currently earning? How about one that is exciting, where you don’t sit in an office all day, or see the same sights day in and day out? Do you think it would be fun to wake up in the middle of the ocean every day before beginning work? If this sounds like a job you would enjoy, you should look into offshore jobs working on oil rigs.

Working on an oil rig might be more exciting than a typical job. These jobs often pay a lot more as well. The downside, of course, is that you might be out on an oil platform for one, two, or three weeks at a time. For some people this might be preferable to commuting in a big city every day. Waking up in the middle of the ocean, and not battling traffic to and from work might actually be  a welcome change. For others, of course, being away from family might be a burden. Working on an oil rig will keep you busy for weeks at a time, but you will also have a week or more off work at regular intervals. For some workers the benefits of higher pay and periods of down time to spend with family outweigh the burden of being away from home for periods of time. They also usually enjoy higher pay than they would usually earn on land.

All sorts of jobs are needed on oil rigs. Obviously, there are the skilled labor jobs you would expect. But there are also jobs related to maintaining a living environment at sea. For example, oil rigs need experienced chefs to provide three meals per day to their workers, and staff members to provide cleaning services. Therefore, there are jobs on oil rigs for more professions than you might have originally thought, and they all pay well and offer an exciting work environment.
